And she was instantly transported to the warm, humid evening of 18 years ago. She was 12 years old and had gone to the Bahamas with her parents. To enjoy. To relish the fun and frolic. In one of the umpteen evening cookouts, she went out to an open air cooking restaurant with live music and luau wearing waiters and waitresses passing the freshly grilled food.
The entire evening was suffused with the sweet smells of roasted beef, sweet apples, musky smell of freshly brewed beer and the ever fresh fragrance of night lilies. She has had enough of this entire adult “fun”. All she wanted was someone of her own age. So she went for a little stroll around the restaurant, with people generally goofing around.
But she was also liking how everyone was in high spirits and how the surroundings themselves were uplifting the souls; how she was liking the gentle reassuring presence of hundreds of people around themselves with no particular hurry to get things done, quiet unlike the hectic NewYork lifestyle that she was used to. It was like discovering a new side of herself, and she relished it.
And then she came across a birthday party. A lot of boys and girls having fun and she decided to join in. at her age, usually girls dance together because the boys are too shy to ask them. And then she saw him. He was 13, 14 at max with fair olive skin, dark hair and deep see green eyes. And she could not keep her eyes off him. And he saw her too. He, then, asked her to dance, and so they had the first dance and then the second and then many more to follow. And then they started to talk, And you know what it is when you like someone, you know it at once; well, she liked him a lot.
And then they kissed, for the first time and she fell in love with him just for that, for the simple, untainted way in which they touched the lips.
And then, all of a sudden, all that she was missing came back to her. In that cramped plane with her LV bag falling over her neighbour; her feet still aching in the Jimmy Choo stilettos.
And she thought that maybe she should request the air hostess to get the seats interchanged. But then the moment passed and she started to plan out her vacation.
